Which screws are right for your job?

Mar 17, 2026

Ag panel and PBR panels use exposed fasteners in installation, meaning screws pierce the metal and a rubber washer on the screw seals the hole to prevent leaking.

First decision is color or finish.

Screws come in galvalume and painted to match the painted panels.

Second decision is what type of screw.

Screws will all go through the metal but what are you attaching to? That will determine the type of screw that you will need.

Wood-grip screws are designed to be used when the panels are being attached to wood firring strips. The course thread design gives you outstanding longevity and hold.

Metal-to-metal screws are designed to be used when attaching your panels to metal tubing, hat channel or metal purlins. The screw features a drill point head to create a hole in the metal structure and the expanded threads hold securely.

Lap screws are designed to securely hold the panels to each other at the lap rib. when the panels are installed the rib is secured over the top of the previous panel purlin leg rib. The lap screws is installed to hold the top panel to the underneath panel. These have a drill point head.

Lifetime Screws are designed with a one piece head and washer and larger thread for better hold in wood or a metal design with a drill point. These screws will not rust and will last a lifetime.

There are different roofing systems that use concealed fasteners, like standing seam roofing panels. That style roofing system uses a flat head screw and does not have a washer since it is not exposed.

Screws will come in an assortment or colors, lengths, prices and uses. Take the time to figure out which screw is right for your building job and your budget.
